MAY MEMORIES

Hardly seems possible that school is over. I remember as a child we thought the end of the school year would never come – now it comes much faster.

The elementary school always has a fun track meet the last week of school. Hannah loves to run so entered all the running events. In the relay race on the baton exchange between Hannah and her friend they dropped the baton - but still won. Don't think she will be a distance runner but she loves those sprints.

Planting corn and beans was really late due to rains. But as dry as we have been for five years – we took the rains … as though we had much choice. It has been unseasonably cool and lots of strong wind.

We have finished AI breeding and have worked all the calves. The calves look like a top set. We have Sitz Tradition calves for the first time and thus far are pleased.

Depending upon to whom you talk – the highlight of the month was Vance's birthday. This was the milestone birthday that allows for social security and I guess makes one clearly a senior citizen – even though AARP starts sending out letters at age 50.

Since Vance is now a senior citizen, I leave you this month with . . .

“Youth is when you get carded for beer.
Old age is when you get carded for senior discounts.”

Vance is 65 and retirement is not in his vocabulary
