JANUARY JOURNEY

Dru and Hannah are all smiles after the carload judging.

In the carload at Denver.

January came and went fast. Hope all of 2004 isn’t going to go this fast.

We again took a carload of yearling bulls to the Denver Stock Show. Our guys spent 12 days in Denver then Vance, Trude, Hannah and I went later so aren’t gone so long — and then too we can miss out on part of the work. The weather was good in Denver and that helps make for more traffic in the carloads. The guys were really pleased with the acceptance of the bulls. In the show they received the honors of Reserve Grand Champion. We congratulate the Grand Champion Carload that had six bulls sired by TC Moonshine.

We also had TC Freedom on display in Denver. He drew a lot of interest and six of our carload bulls were sired by Freedom — so people were able to see the sire and his offspring. There were Freedom calves shown on the hill and they won classes and stood second. So we felt Freedom was well accepted. Freedom will see lots of service this year at the ranch.

We have started getting a few calves. It is always exciting to see the babies by new sires. So far we are calving out in the open as it has been a mild and dry month.

It is time to be getting things in order for our February sale. We fertility tested, ultrasounded, and clipped the bulls for the sale. The catalog is typed and at the printers. It is always a day to celebrate when the catalog is finished. Vance and Dru took Trude and me out for dinner — since we had put in long hours on the catalog. I had help as Trude did much of the proofreading as I did the typing.

The sale season has started and Angus interest remains high. We are still extremely dry in our area but buyers remain optimistic.

Yes — “Big Red” does have a new football coach and many new assistants. Now we must wait for the fall football season to see the results ... sort of like breeding cattle and then having to wait for the baby calves.

Since showing in Denver is work and we had success, I leave you this month with . . .
