FEBRUARY FUN

Hannah and Missy

TC Franchise 360

Trude up to her elbows in work after the sale.

Mainly two things happen in February — our sale and calving. But now with granddaughter Hannah, we found time to celebrate her 7th birthday. She is a horse lover — Dru took Hannah to a horse sale and bought “Missy” a buckskin — which just happens to be Hannah’s favorite kind of horse.
It was really cold part of the month so we had to start calving inside. Calving is going good and the babies are full of vim and vigor.
We had a nice day for the sale and it warmed up for the day. When we awoke sale morning there were a few snowflakes in the air — just to let us know it was sale day. However it only lasted a few minutes and the ground was never even white. We had about 600 people and the cattle sold into 15 states. The 157 bulls averaged $4,102 and the 42 heifer calves averaged $1,788 — we were more than pleased.

Top-selling bull at $23,500 was TC Franchise 360 going to TK Angus and 5H Angus of Nebraska and Dikoff Angus Ranch of South Dakota. He is a Freedom son out of a 9440 dam. Another Freedom son out of a Dividend dam sold to Barstow Angus and Rock Creek Angus of Nebraska for $15,000. Leroy Born of Texas selected a Future Direction son out of a Forefront dam for $15,000.

I warned Trude that the day after the sale is the worst day of the year — one is tired, the phone rings and people come, etc. But this year we found the Monday after the sale to be really hectic.

Since we have a new horse on the ranch, I leave you this month with . . .
