TC Diary

AUGUST ACTIVITIES

Freedom's dam to sell November 3 in our 55th Anniversary Female Sale.

When the rain stopped, it stopped. We are really dry again but the grass is holding and we are not over stocked. We are short of water in the pasture ponds but it is better than the last two years - so we try not to complain - it could be lots worse.

We are still in serious talks over water. Vance and Dru attended a meeting the other night and there were 700 people there. Vance thinks the only water solution is rain.

The guys have been trying to get the cattle picked out for our female sale which is November 3. They are going to sell Freedom's dam and Grid Iron's dam. Then they are putting in top calves by TC Freedom and Future Direction. It will certainly be the best set of females to leave TC Ranch. If you want more information go to TC Sales.

Filling the silage pit for winter feed.

Dru judged beef cattle at the Michigan State Fair. Vance went to the Nebraska and Iowa State Fairs and checked out some herd bulls we had sold on the way. Then in between they worked the calves the first time and gave them their first shot. Towards the end of the month we cut silage which was a little earlier than usual since it is so dry.

Trude and I were trying to find a date for our annual TC Ranch family picnic. Vance heard us and said, "Let's combine it with a customer appreciation time." When Vance left Trude said, "Vance wasn't kidding was he." I told her no that it was something he had wanted to do for a long time. When the plans were complete, we decided to have a barbecue in our yard - I did a summer's work of yard work in one week - but did get the place looking fairly good and thus we had the TC Ranch Round Up. The guys had some cattle rounded up in the pasture for people to walk through and we had a barbecue supper with banana splits out in the yard. 200 people came and we had a good time visiting and the weather was perfect. Thanks to all who were able to come. We hope to make this an annual Round Up.

People gathering to look at the cattle.

What fun making their own
banana splits.
They enjoyed seeing the cattle down south in the hills.

A TC Ranch welcome for our Round Up with TC Freedom and Sitz Tradition looking on.

Yes, we are getting ready for Big Red - Husker football, it will be exciting. We attended the NU volleyball scrimmage game along with 2,800 other people - now that is more people than most schools get to a game and this was just a scrimmage. The girls looked good and the freshman are giving the returning players a big run for positions - we are starting out ranked #2 but come December we'll really know.

Since we are dry and water is a big problem, we still had a good month of fellowship being at State Fairs and at our Round Up, thus I leave you this month with . . .
