APRIL AWARENESS

April is always the busiest month of the year at TC Ranch. We are working calves, synchronizing, starting to AI, starting to plant corn, shipping semen orders, fixing fence and delivering bulls as well as all the usual work.

We had to make breeding decisions as it was time to AI the heifers. Our guys have ideas for AI sires but the final decision is made when the heifer is coming up the chute and Vance and Dru can eyeball her. We use portable AI huts for breeding that have room for two animals.

All the bulls are delivered and we enjoyed making the deliveries. A high percentage of our buyers are repeat customers thus we like to take time to see how the previous animals have grown and some of their progeny. Always a good learning experience.

Tavin at his half birthday party

Dru judged the Angus Show at the Houston Livestock Show. He enjoys judging and I tell him he makes at least one person happy that day.

Since we started the fall breeding program as well as the spring program - it seems as though we are working at calving, weighing, vaccinating, or tagging constantly. Of course, that means doing all the registrations and weights twice a year too.

Even though the month was busy we had time to celebrate Tavin's half birthday. Of course he had a half cake - but received whole gifts. He especially enjoyed his balloon.

Vance attended a University of Nebraska college livestock judging reunion. They had to judge several classes and even give reasons. It was a fun time as most of the guys (and there were gals) had not done any judging since leaving college.

Since this is such a busy month, I leave you with...
