TC Diary

OCTOBER ORBIT

Rain, rain go away come again another day. This is what we were saying as the guys were trying to harvest. We had 15 inches of rain this month and our yearly average is 20 inches; thus harvest was slow. We did get the beans out and only a little corn.

The calves are coming on good. They weighed the bulls, added a couple more that might fit the carload, and took the steers to the feedlot. We always feed out the bottom third of the bulls; as we like to know how they perform.

Vance and Connie returned to Omaha where Vance started 33 radiation and 8 chemo treatments. The radiation treatments took 32 minutes using eight different beams. The surgeon put in a feeding tube which was to be a “simple procedure”. Even though Vance doesn’t need it now they said it was better to be prepared ahead of time. This two hour surgery ended up being four and a half hours — not so simple. Two weeks later while we were home for the weekend, he had a dehiscence. They airlifted him back to Omaha and did surgery again. We are now staying in our “suite” in the medical complex during the radiation treatments.

Tavin enjoyed celebrating his 4th birthday. He is now ready to go fishing and has his own auger to get corn in his grain bin.

The Huskers continue to improve in both football and volleyball. We have some tough games coming but hopefully we will be tougher. Everyone seems to think Coach Bo will get it done with some time.

We have enjoyed the beautiful Fall colors on our drives to Omaha. Connie’s Mother donated some land along a creek bed to the city of Franklin for a walking trail and they had the opening this month. Mother also enjoyed walking and hopes others will use this trail for seeing nature and for better health.

With the beautiful Fall, I leave you this month with . . .

“Autumn is a second spring where every leaf is a flower.”
