MAY MEMORIES
Vance at 50th High School reunion in Bruning, Nebraska

We have many memories this month. Vance celebrated with five classmates their 50th high school reunion. There were 8 boys and 4 girls in his class. Since it is a small school they only have the reunion every other year so two classes celebrate together. Of course his group thought and knew they looked younger than the graduates a year ahead of them.

Ty and I took our annual vacation trip. Thus I celebrated Mother’s Day in Solt Hungary. Went to a tourist farm and saw “grey cattle”. Decided that we need to do more basketball and volleyball recruiting in Serbia where the people are extremely tall. We followed the Lower Danube River from Budapest to Cernavoda Romania. Cruised through the Iron Gate which was beautiful scenery. Even got our feet wet in the Black Sea. Went by bus and spent a couple of days in Buckarest, the largest city and capital of Romania. Then on the return flight spent time in the Netherlands and Belgium. Enjoyed visiting Bloemenveiling Aalsmeer which is the world marketplace for flowers and plants. This complex covers an area roughly the size of 250 football fields. Every morning tens of millions of flowers and plants change hands in an auction system. Thus 60,000 transactions take place between grower and buyer in the space of a few hours. (Made me think the cattle sale business is extremely small and slow.) Then 5,000 trucks daily deliver the supply to airplanes or transport to businesses. The country side in many places looked just like home and even the cotton was flying from the cottonwood trees. Saw many dairy cattle but only a couple of “blacks”.

We have had lots of rain and the ponds are as full as they have been for years. We are more fortunate than many as have not had hail or a tornado and only one heavy rain of five inches.

The cattle are all out to pasture with some good young bulls. Some of the bulls are PVL ALL Payday 729, he caused lots of excitement in Denver; Connealy Right Answer, the lead–off yearling bull at Connealy’s sale; two top yearling sons of MA Broadside 1334-822 one of which we call Tank; and VAR Prime Rate 6254, a bull we purchased from Vintage Angus out of the E161 daughter that is out of EXT’s dam who sold for $280,000 in the Vintage sale. Also some older bulls like Sitz Tradition RLS 8702, Connealy Foundation, MA Broadside 1334-822 and Double G Helmsman 8776. Click on TC Sires if you would like more information on any of these bulls.

The calves are off to a nice start. People call and want to know the sire of the best calves. Vance always tells it like it is, “they are just babies and there will be lots of changes”.

Since traveling, I leave you this month with . . .

“Traveling allows you to create memories that can enhance your journey through life.”
