APRIL AWARENESS
What a busy month - our busiest of the year. We synchronized and are starting to AI. Always trying to make the correct breeding decisions and with so many tools to use it isn't easy. Reminds me of the grocery store - they use to have corn flakes, cheerios and shredded wheat. Now there are five kinds of each of those plus 50 more kinds. Nothing is simple like it used to be. All the sale cattle are delivered and we are working the calves getting them ready to go to pasture. We brought TC Freedom 104 and MA Broadside home from the stud. Vance took a vacation to Montana touring herds, going to sales and the bull studs. Saw lots of cattle and enjoyed the visits. We had a hard freeze that really hurt the alfalfa. It will have to start all over so will probably be a shorter cutting.
Hannah has been working on her NJAS photography and graphic design projects. She likes art and learned how to design on the computer. We started planting corn on the 15th. Think that is the earliest we have ever started - but our early corn is always the better yielding. However, I think the weather has a major part in the yields. We are still cut back on water this year so are hoping for lots of rain. Since we are starting to plant and farm for this year, I leave you with . . . “You will never plough a field if you only turn it over in your mind.” - - - Irish Proverb |
