MARCH MADNESS

Hannah enjoying one of the baby calves as Tavin watches. |
The mild weather took a change but we certainly welcomed the moisture. While the whole state was shut down for two days, way south where we live the storm was not so wicked. We received 1/2 inch of rain and then 12 inches of snow. But the warm weather returned and in a couple of days all the snow was gone. We were prepared and did not lose any calves. Sometimes one is just plain lucky. All sales were postponed the week of the storm.
It took the better part of a week to get all the freeze branding done. We offer freeze branding of the sale bulls, and each year more and more are requesting it. Then we also do our replacement heifers. Even though it is time consuming, we appreciate the permanent ID numbers when breeding AI and working cattle.

MA Broadside 1334-822 |
We have started our "vacation" with delivery of the sale cattle. We start with the bulls farthest away and/or that need to get to a stud for collection. We worked out one delivery so we could be back in Lincoln to see the Franklin High School girls play in the State Basketball Tournament. Franklin didn't win but we considered just getting to State a win.
Vance and Dru decided to head to Illinois for Musgrave's bull sale. They came home enthused with their purchase of MA Broadside 1334-822. He is a September 2004 son of 878 out of a War Alliance heifer. He is very deep ribbed, easy fleshing. And really thick and correct. "Broadside" will see heavy service as AI and natural service.
Breeding AI is in full gear. This year we again synchronized the heifers and bred them the last of the month. We will be working on the cows from April 28 till the end of May.

Hannah giving Petey some love |
Hannah didn't get to celebrate her birthday last month, and she did not receive her gift till this month as the Bichon pup was not old enough to leave his mother. There is nothing cutier than a puppy and this one is certainly getting lots of love. Dru just hopes he doesn't step on "Petey".
As many of you have a dog and with the arrival of Petey, I leave you this month with . . .
"One day I hope to be the person my dog thinks I am." - - - Anonymous.
