FEBRUARY FUN
We calved all the cows out in the open and had no problems. I think calving problems are a thing of the past unless a calf is backwards or some other major problem as we just don't have any problems with a normal birth. Thus far no sickness, so the calves are off and running. The weather was almost perfect for sale day- not too hot and not too cold, and just a little breeze in the morning. Had a crowd of over 500 people and someone told me there were vehicles from 21 states. For the first time we had the pre-sale dinner at Dru and Trude's home. You never know until you try how things will work - but we thought it went smooth and the New York strips were good. We certainly appreciate all the good help we have with the sale. We put many of the local FFA students to work and they seem to enjoy themselves as they are learning. The top bull in the sale sold to McKean Brothers in Pennsylvania. He is a son of Tradition and brought $26,000. The McKeans came a couple of days before the sale and told me they came to buy a big butt bull - and were glad they came ahead as they all had big butts. The top female sold to Glenn Swanson in Iowa. The last I knew they had not decided which grandchild would get to show this heifer. We wish all the new owners the best with their purchases. If you want more information on the sale, click on "cattle sales". The Tradition, Freedom, Alliance and Foreman bulls all averaged over $5,500 and within a few dollars of each other along with TC Alliance 333. You might want to check out TC Alliance 333 as he has really good numbers and the guys like his calves.
The weekend after the sale was the Nebraska Cattleman's Junior Show. Hannah showed a heifer and stood 2nd in her class. Hannah's 9th birthday was the day before the sale. Needless to say we did not get to celebrate but will next month. Tavin is growing too fast but it is fun to see them change as they learn. This busy month of so many deadlines behind us, I leave you with . . . "I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by." - - - Douglas Adams |
