JANUARY JOURNAL

Tavin enjoying
his Elmo balloon
with Grandpa

It seems like the millennium was just yesterday and here it is 2008. We had ice this month that did not melt.

The guys took a carload of bulls to Denver. It was fairly warm the first part of the week and then got colder. Had a good turn out in the pen to view the bulls and had nice comments. That always makes the trip and expense worthwhile. We also had two of our bulls on display in Denver — Payday and One Way. Vance enjoyed judging the Hereford Carload Show.

Denver ended on a sad time with the death of our friend, Roy Wallace. We had been with him the evening before and didn’t think he felt good, but he didn’t want to go to a doctor. Vance flew back to Ohio for his funeral. While there he went to the stud and saw TC Total.

A couple of days back home it was ultrasound, fertility test and weighing of the sale cattle. When we do it all at the same time, it does save a trip through the chutes for the bulls, and it seems to work well. Then we finished taking the catalog pictures and worked on getting the catalog ready for the printers.

Vance and I took Tavin to see Elmo and his friends live on stage. We enjoy watching the children and especially Tavin at the play more so than the play itself. While in Lincoln also went to the Children’s Museum. Tavin really likes the semi truck and this time was hauling milo — I doubt if the city children even know anything about milo?

We have just started calving the heifers and so far no problems.

With the death of our friend Roy Wallace, I leave you this month with . . .

“We have got but one life here.
it pays, no matter what comes after it,
to try and do things,
to accomplish things in this life
and not merely to have a soft and pleasant time.”
